UAVs in Agriculture

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly referred to as drones are making waves in the agricultural industry providing smart farming solutions that use real-time data gathering and processing to improve farm-wide decision-making and efficiency, freeing up time and money needed elsewhere within farm businesses.

With the pressure of increasing populations, extreme weather events and climate change, producers need new innovative strategies that increase productivity while prioritising sustainability and resilience. Drones are going to play a key role in finding a solution to these issues.

Current uses for drones in agriculture include surveying and mapping, crop health monitoring and disease detection. While services such as automated disease detection, spraying and automated drones that are housed on-farm are expected to become feasible services over the next decade.

However, if you are looking to use a drone for your business, you need to make sure you are doing this legally. Failure to adhere to them could result in criminal prosecution.
