Ayrshire Soil & Nutrient Network – 1st meeting

This is the first of three Ayrshire events to demonstrate the value of our soils.

We will be meeting  ‘Dormieston Farm’, near the village of Stair with the kind permission of host farmer James Sloan. We will introduce you to our new host farm, focusing on soil health and nutrient management with the help of practical demonstrations.

Topics for discussion

  • Soil Results
  • Value of Slurry
  • Soil Structure and Compaction issues

The grass and crops we grow on farm are the basis for feeding stock effectively and efficiently. If the soil is not structurally sound or at the correct nutrient levels to begin with at the start of the growing season then the resulting crops will either cost more to produce and/or yield less than expected, resulting in a forage short fall for the winter.
