Uist Soil and Nutrient Network Farm – 1st meeting
The first meeting of the Uist Soil & Nutrient Network Farm.
This is the first of three meetings demonstrating the value of our soils and how to make the best use of nutrients. The soils in Uist are very variable with soils ranging from very alkaline calcareous soils on the machair to very acidic peaty soils.
The first meeting will look at current situation on the croft at Clachan Sands where a variety of soil types are present and discuss the current issues and some potential solutions to help improve the soil and nutrient usage. Topics will include Soil texture/structure, liming and nutrients. Gavin Elrick, soil and drainage expert with SAC Consulting will be with us to answer any queries.
If you would like to assess your own soil please bring along a sample.
