Improving Drainage and Soil Structure for Healthier Soils – Kilmarnock
Good Soil Structure & Drainage
Having good soil structure and drainage is essential to grow grass. Yields can be significantly reduced with compacted waterlogged soils.
This meeting will aim to highlight the importance of having good drainage and soil structure, and how these can be fixed in grassland fields.
Guest speaker: Seamus Donnelly
We’ll have soils and drainage expert Seamus Donnelly in attendance. He will give details on improved soil structure can help with your nutrient management, how to alleviate soil compaction and discuss how historic drainage systems might now be showing problems. Later in the day he’ll lead practical demonstrations outside ‘in the field’.
A farm walk in the afternoon will allow you to view soil pits & VESS (visual examination of soil structure) in action, as well as practical machinery demonstrations in action.
