Live Lambs Meeting +++MEETING POSTPONED+++
+++Please note that this meeting has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions+++
Carstairs Mains produces pedigree performance-recorded Beltex rams whilst developing a 700 ewe commercial flock of Cheviot cross Aberfields. The high potential value of the pedigrees hones the mind on lamb survival with high attention-to-detail in colostrum management and hygiene. With a communication and recording system in place, birth weight measurements and lamb vigour scoring – this is a good place to visit for ideas pre-lambing.
Following a farm tour (Carstairs Mains, Lanark, ML11 8QP), SAC Consulting Veterinary Investigation Office, Marion McMillan, will lead on a lamb post-mortem from his earlier lambing batch. Emphasis is on recording the causes of lambing deaths this year, we will provide forms to aid this and the discussion will focus on how this influences lambing management within the season and for future years.
Cathy Dwyer will deliver a technical presentation on lessons from the SheepNet fact finding mission to Australia and New Zealand – this will focus on science and practises that help achieve target rearing percentage. We will also present the final 2017 rearing data for the focus farmers.
The event commences with lunch at the village hall. Please wear clean boots. This meeting is open to all, please register attendance with Val Angus on 01835 823322 or e-mailing email@example.com
