NE Organic Discussion Group – Event 2

This will be an ideal opportunity to visit Barnside without leaving your home, no travel or inclement weather. It will be a virtual farm tour, a Webinar including video footage of the farm shot before the meeting.

Charley and Andrea Walker will use video to show us round their farm. They are current Farmers Weekly Grassland Managers of the Year. They say “Our core aim is to operate a farming system that works with nature to produce organic beef and lamb in order to provide a healthy margin for the business, a healthy soil for the future and a healthy quality of life for ourselves and our visitors. We strive to replace inputs such as fertiliser, grain, fuel, machinery, pesticides and labour with knowledge and management”.  In addition to seeing their system we will hear how they do it! They have increased their stocking rate by 30% and output by 48% without increasing operating costs.
