Book

This is the first meeting for the New Entrants to farming programme for Orkney, this will include two meetings over the winter period.

The first meeting will be held on Tormiston Farm on the 25th September at 10.30am, this will be followed by lunch and an afternoon session at the Standing Stone Hotel.  We will be joined by three guest speakers including Simon Hunt from Elanco, Mabel Gaudie from Birsay Farmers and a local vet from North Vet.

The meeting will cover the importance of getting animal health right to enhance business success and profitability.  This will include interactive sessions to encourage correct dosing of animals with the most appropriate product, depending on the season, the parasite and the specific group of animals.  The implications of under dosing will be highlighted along with the importance of calibrating dosing guns and the best method to do this.  Other topics to be covered include parasite lifecycles, producing a good animal health plan and the role of an SQP who can work alongside you vet to help reach business potential.

This is a must attend workshop for any new entrant or young farmer who keeps livestock.

Please remember to wear clean clothes and footwear suitable for disinfection.
