Working it out: Making the most of your fertiliser
This online meeting will focus on the importance of getting the most from both organic and inorganic fertiliser applications. Nutrient budgeting is a valuable tool that can be used to help farmers tailor fertiliser applications to on farm soil requirements. This can have a major impact both in terms of financial savings and reducing the risk of losing precious nutrients to the environment. For example, recent studies carried out on SRUC’s “Farming for a Better Climate” farm in South East Scotland discovered that through implementing strict nutrient budgeting they could save £75.40/Ha each year. Throughout this practical meeting, we will demonstrate simple methods which can be used to calculate on farm fertiliser requirements – helping to encourage efficient use of fertilisers and reduce input costs. This meeting will also feature an update on current fertiliser prices direct from trade.
Please have a calculator, paper and pen to hand, which will allow you to work through some example scenarios and fertiliser calculations
