Wet Weather Resilience Planning: Crocketford – Event Summary

The prolonged wet weather that we have experienced since Autumn 2017 has had a massive impact on farm businesses across South West Scotland.

This event considered key actions which assist farmers struggling with shortage of feed, fodder and/or bedding.Wet weather resilience planning event in Crocketford - attendees are sitting around a horse-shoe shaped table inside a cosy stone walled room

  1. Measure silage stocks and prepare forage budget
  2. Minimise number mouths to feed
  3. Consider what to by – DM, energy, protein – value
  4. Steading maintenance/adaptation
  5. Animal Health – dialogue with Vet
  6. Urea – 20 units/ac – asap
  7. Soil sample and fertiliser plan
  8. Long term actions – drainage, compaction, lime
  9. If you don’t ‘feel right’ – ask for help. Ask others ‘Are you OK’
  10. FAS Helpline, SAC, Vet – make use of advice
