Next Generation Practical Training Fund
16 July 2025Following a successful pilot in Autumn 2023, the Next Generation Practical Training Fund has reopened and will continue until March 2027. Anyone who has entered the agricultural industry within the last five years or recently completed formal sector-related education can apply for 100% funding for up to £500 per course. There is no upper age limit, but the five years only starts from 18 years of age.
A maximum of one course per month is permitted, with applications prioritised to new applicants. Courses over £500 will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Over 500 in person and online courses spanning the length and breadth of Scotland are available, focussing on business efficiency and resilience, health and safety, climate change adaptation and mitigation practises, biodiversity or habitat improvement and equipment training – look out for those with the Next Generation badge on the Skills Hub Scotland website.
Applications can be made on the Skills Hub Scotland website once you have identified a course and training provider that meets your needs. In your application you need to demonstrate how this training improves your opportunities within the industry. If you are successful with your application, you need to register with the course provider within three weeks. Upon completion of the course you will be asked to complete a feedback form. More details on this fund can be found on the Lantra website.
