Integrating Trees Network: Walking and Talking Trees with Bruce Mackie

Join ITN to hear from the Mackie family who run an organic dairy farm with 250 cows, grow organic wheat and barley mostly as feed for the cows, and produce a range of yogurts under their ‘rora dairy’ brand.

Over the years, trees and hedges have been planted to create rich habitats on the farm for a wide variety of wildlife.

Bruce will introduce everyone to the Aberdeenshire Sma Wids project, which supports the planting of small woodlands up to 0.25ha. ITN and guests will hear about the many benefits of planting trees, with particular focus on watercourses where trees can stabilise riverbanks, reduce the effects of flooding, create shade for livestock and prevent water temperatures rising.

The event will look at the initial thought process, the decision to plant trees and the challenges. Come along and join the discussion with ITN.

ITN will have speakers from Scottish Forestry to discuss funding and first steps to woodland creation.
