Beef Nutrition Workshop Aberdeen – Get Your Cows in Shape for Calving
Nutrition plays a fundamental role in cow health, fertility, calving performance and calf health, while also having a significant impact on feed costs. Getting nutrition right during late pregnancy is particularly important for maintaining optimal cow condition, supporting a successful calving and giving calves the best possible start.
This practical, hands-on workshop will help farmers assess their current feeding strategy and make informed nutritional decisions based on their own forage, feed resources and herd requirements.
The workshop will cover:
- Managing cow nutrition and body condition through late pregnancy to support successful calving and healthy, vigorous calves
- How to assess forage quality and understand its nutritional value
- How to build rumen-healthy rations based on forage quality and herd requirements
- The role of nutrition in colostrum quality, calf vigour and fertility for the next breeding cycle
Working directly with real forage, feed labels and rationing tools, participants will develop the confidence and practical skills to assess what they are feeding and make appropriate adjustments for their own farm system.
Places are limited, so advance booking is essential.
If possible, participants should bring:
- Forage analysis results
- A sample of forage in an airtight container for physical examination
- Details of their current feeding system, including labels of any supplements being fed
Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
