Biodiversity Audit Workshop – Orkney

Book event

Learn how to identify the different habitats on your farm and map them online as part of your Biodiversity Audit!

The 2028 deadline for completing your Whole Farm Plan is approaching faster than you might think, and the Biodiversity Audit is a key part of the process. While completing a biodiversity audit may seem daunting at first, it’s something you can do yourself once you know what to look for.

This practical workshop will help you identify the different habitats on your farm and show you how to map them online as part of your Biodiversity Audit.

We’ll begin with a guided walk along the Crantit Trail, where we’ll identify and discuss the range of habitats found along the route. Using this as a practical example, we’ll then have a go at mapping these habitats together.

After the walk, we’ll head to The Picky Centre, where you’ll have the opportunity to work on your own habitat maps. If you’d like to make a start on your own Biodiversity Audit, please bring a copy of your farm map with you.

This workshop is free to attend and open to all farmers and smallholders. We will meet at 10.00 am at the Kirkwall end of the Crantit Trail before setting off for the walk.

Part of the event will be held outdoors and involve walking over uneven ground.
Suitable footwear and clothing are essential.
