Crops Trials Evening – Lothians
Join us at Southfield Farm on 23rd June for an evening of practical crop insights and on-farm discussion designed to help arable businesses make better-informed decisions for harvest 2027.
With increasing pressure on margins, rising input costs and more challenging growing conditions, making the right variety and crop protection decisions has never been more important.
This event offers a valuable opportunity to see current and upcoming Winter Wheat and Spring Barley varieties performing under local conditions and hear directly from researchers, industry specialists and fellow farmers about what is looking promising for the seasons ahead.
Researchers from SRUC will share the latest findings from national and recommended list trials in East Lothian, including how varieties have come through the winter and spring, which are showing strong potential, and what farmers should be considering when planning for 2027. Rather than relying solely on trial data or brochures, attendees will have the chance to see varieties in the field, ask questions and discuss practical management considerations face to face.
The meeting will provide practical advice that could help you:
- Improve crop performance and consistency
- Select varieties with stronger disease resistance and yield potential
- Reduce risk in increasingly variable seasons
- Improve margins through better-informed variety and fungicide decisions
- Understand how fungicide products have performed in recent trials
- Benchmark current approaches against the latest research and local experience
- Network with other farmers and industry representatives facing similar challenges
Whether you are looking to fine-tune your current system or plan ahead for future cropping decisions, this event is an opportunity to gather practical, locally relevant information that could support more resilient and profitable arable businesses.
A BBQ and refreshments will be available from 5pm, with the meeting starting at 5:30pm.
Booking is essential for catering purposes.
Please wear suitable farm footwear and clothing.
Please note this event will involve walking on uneven surfaces for a substantial period of time.
