Deer Farming Meeting – Semeil Farm
Come along to Semeil Farm on Friday 12th June, for a 10:30am start, where John Rider runs a breeding/finishing herd of 180 hinds with finished deer sold to Dovecote Park.
John in-winters his calves in polytunnels which have been adapted for deer. His focus is on a low cost/low labour system.
Yearlings are rotationally grazed with an innovative 3 wire electric fence subdivision. In recent years the farm has suffered from drought over the summer grazing period and rotational grazing has enabled John to maintain pasture quality and cover.
The focus for the day will be on pasture management and low-cost systems.
There will be an open discussion after the farm walk in the afternoon.
Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
Lunch will be provided so booking is essential.
What3Words Location: Semeil Farm.
