Farm Wildlife Walk – Loch Lomond

Book event

Join us at Shantron Farm, Luss, Tuesday 27th October for an autumn Farm Wildlife Walk looking at how the Agri-Environment Climate Scheme (AECS) can support practical habitat management alongside a productive and sustainable farming business.

Hosted by Kay Wilson and family of R & J Lennox & Son, this practical on-farm event will explore some of the opportunities that could be available through the next AECS funding round. With the Scottish Government confirming a further funding round for 2027, expected to open in early 2027, now is a good time for farmers and crofters to begin considering what options may be suitable for their own businesses.

Situated within the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Shantron provides an excellent setting to look at a range of farmland habitats and discuss how relatively simple changes in management can help improve their value for wildlife.

During a guided farm walk, we will visit habitats and areas of the farm that could potentially form part of an AECS application. We will discuss:

  • how to recognise habitats with existing conservation value;
  • how habitat condition can influence the management required;
  • practical measures that can improve habitats for farmland wildlife;
  • the types of management and capital works that may be supported through AECS;
  • how environmental management can be incorporated within a productive farm business; and
  • what farmers can do now to begin preparing for a potential 2027 application

The event will focus on practical, achievable management, looking not only at creating new habitats but also at how existing areas of the farm can be enhanced through appropriate grazing, cutting and other management.

There will also be an opportunity to discuss the wider aims of AECS and how the scheme can help deliver meaningful benefits for biodiversity, water quality and the wider farm environment while supporting the long-term resilience and sustainability of Scottish farming.

This event is suitable for farmers, crofters and land managers who are interested in wildlife and habitat management, are considering an AECS application, or simply want to better understand the environmental opportunities that may already exist on their farm.

Come along, see what AECS could look like in practice and start thinking about the opportunities for your farm ahead of the 2027 funding round.

Booking is essential for catering purposes.
