Forage Focus Field Day – Castle Douglas
Join us on Tuesday 14th July for a Forage Focus farm walk by kind permission of the Biggar family. This walk will be exploring how forage crops, arable silage, herbs and legumes are being integrated into a pasture based suckler beef system.
The Biggar family have been trialling different crops over the last few years so we will reflect on what has worked well. We will also look at different herbs, clovers and grasses to see how these have established under a cereal cover crop.
We will be discussing:
- The benefits of crop diversity in forage systems
- The grass and forage mixes working best in South West Scotland
- Fertiliser strategies to maximise crop production and protect businesses against market shocks
Lunch will be provided so booking is essential. Please ensure to bring clean footwear and clothing.
