Lairg Crofting Discussion Group: Body Condition Scoring & Pre-Tupping
During the session, you’ll learn how good nutrition influences fertility and how you can make the most of your feed resources in the run-up to tupping. We’ll also look at key pre-tupping considerations, including assessing ewe condition, identifying any management issues early, and ensuring ewes are in the best possible position to achieve good conception rates and support a successful breeding season.
The session will also cover the principles of body condition scoring, with practical demonstrations to help you confidently assess your own sheep. You’ll learn what condition scores mean, when to assess your flock, and how condition scoring can be used as a valuable management tool to guide feeding decisions, improve productivity and enhance flock welfare.
Whether you’re new to sheep farming or have years of experience, this is an excellent opportunity to refresh your knowledge, ask questions and gain practical advice ahead of the breeding season.
Dinner provided so booking is essential.
Please wear clean wellies & leggings and outdoor clothes as we will be handling sheep.
