Lothian WIA – Biodiversity and Diversification

Book event

Join the Lothians Women in Agriculture group for a visit to Cairns Farm Estate in West Lothian.

The farm is run by Caroline and Graham Hamilton as an extensive hill sheep system. In 2020 they converted their sheep shed into a beautiful wedding venue, with plenty of challenges along the way. The business has now hosted hundreds of successful weddings, and Caroline has adapted to running events and a sheep flock at the same time! The farm is situated in the Pentland Hills, and is part of the Pentland Land Managers Association, which aims to collaborate with a range of stakeholders to improve the Park experience for everyone who works in, visits, and manages this valuable natural resource. This has led to the business working on a project called L-and, which is aiming to protect and restore the ecosystems and biodiversity within the Pentland Hills.

We will hear from Caroline about their vision for their farming business, and the steps they took to open and run such a brilliant venue. We will also discuss the biodiversity and conservation work within the Pentland Hills, and how the Pentland Land Managers Association are working hard to manage their valuable natural capital.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided so booking is essential for catering purposes. All are welcome.
