Outwintering at Oakwood Mill – Selkirk

Book

Please use the above map for an exact meeting location at Hartwoodmyers Hill.

Come and see first hand Giles and Stuart Henry’s herd of Luing cows outwintering on deferred hill grazing.

55 mature cows are blocked grazed across 95ha of deferred hill on 4-5 day shifts from the start of November to the 1st days of April.

Cows receive no forage supplement with 2kg of barley per head per day fed in the last 6 weeks before calving. 25 in calf-heifers meanwhile are on 17ha of deferred hill with hay.

Meet on the hill, 5 mins from the steading, next to the forestry plantation at Hartwoodmyers Hill. W3w location: https://what3words.com/feelers.footpath.drama

After seeing the cows and hearing from Giles and Stuart, we’ll then head over to the steading at Oakwood Mill for refreshments and further discussion. Oakwood Mill W3w location: https://what3words.com/costly.ferrets.movie
