Pasture for Life: Land, Livestock and Livelihoods: Waterproofing Your Farm
💧 Is Your Farm Ready for the Next Downpour?
During this webinar, researchers and scientists, Dr Mark Wilkinson and Dr Stephen Addy from JHI Glensaugh will explore how practical water management and low-cost, nature-based solutions can protect your business, boost soil health, and strengthen your farm’s climate resilience.
Session Objectives:
By the end of this session, participants will:
- Identify water management strategies and flood mitigations that are appropriate for their region and farm type.
- Explain how improvements in soil health will increase the water holding capacity of their soils, therefore, reducing run-off and potential flood damage, and increasing the resilience of their farm system.
- Understand the value of holding more water on farm for crop growth, supplying livestock and reducing impacts on their communities. They will also understand the benefits to improving drought resilience, animal welfare and crop production .
- Understand how this combats the effects of climate change and increasing temperatures.
Session Activities:
This session will be delivered as an interactive online webinar, incroporating the following activities:
- Interactive Presentation:Â A concise overview of water management strategies and flood mitigations undertaken by JHI Glensaugh.
- Farm Implementation Case Study:Â Introduction to low cost tools and techniques for assessing water holding capacity on-farm, and strategies that can positively benefit farms and the wider catchment through implementation.
- Participant-Led Discussion and Q&A:Â Facilitated discussion among participants to identify successful adaptation strategies and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
- Live Poll:Â Interactive poll to gauge participants’ understanding and gather feedback on their specific needs and priorities.
