Shetland Kale – Preserving Scotland’s Oldest Vegetable Variety

Book event

Come along to our meeting to learn more about Shetland Kale – Scotland’s oldest indigenous vegetable variety. We’ll be learning how and why to grow it the traditional way from two of Shetland’s foremost experts – our host Kathleen Anderson from Ollaberry, and Alex Nicholson of Breckon, Yell. They will be joined by representatives of the Northmavine Community Development Company, the only licensed seed merchants of Shetland Kale Seed!

We’ll meet at the Ollaberry Hall before walking down to Kathleen’s croft and visiting her kale yard. The kale yard is approximately 15 minutes’ walk from the hall. The walk will be an easy one but is not suitable for those with restricted mobility. There will be a cuppa and a chance to discuss the visit and ask more questions at the hall afterwards.

Please wear suitable outdoor/waterproof clothing and footwear as we will be outdoors for part of the event. Booking is essential.
