We’re delighted to welcome you back for Season 6 of the Sustainable Sheep Systems series, focusing this year on ‘Reducing Losses at Lambing’.

Industry estimates suggest that around 15% of lambs born nationally are lost between scanning and weaning, making lamb survival an important factor for both flock profitability and animal welfare.

Every lamb counts and improving survival starts long before lambing. Alongside the fundamentals of good ewe nutrition, hygiene and colostrum management, ewe body condition, genetics, metabolic health and coinfection can all influence lamb survival and overall flock performance.

Part Two: Building More Resilient Hill and Upland Flocks

Join us for the second webinar with independent sheep vet Ann Van Eetvelt, who will explore the causes of lamb losses in outdoor systems and how businesses can build greater resilience into their flocks to reduce losses.

Ann will explain:

  • What factors influencing lamb survival are established long before lambing
  • How coinfection can increase the risk of poor ewe performance
  •  What natural infrastructure can be put in place to reduce environmental risks
  • Practical considerations for managing ewe metabolic status

Join us to understand the key risks affecting lamb survival in outdoor systems and discover practical ways to build a more resilient flock and reduce losses.
