Sustainable Sheep Systems: Ewe Body Condition and Lamb Survival
We’re delighted to welcome you back for Season 6 of the Sustainable Sheep Systems series, focusing this year on ‘Reducing Losses at Lambing’.
Industry estimates suggest that around 15% of lambs born nationally are lost between scanning and weaning, making lamb survival an important factor for both flock profitability and animal welfare.
Every lamb counts and improving survival starts long before lambing. Alongside the fundamentals of good ewe nutrition, hygiene and colostrum management, ewe body condition, genetics, metabolic health and coinfection can all influence lamb survival and overall flock performance.
Part One: Ewe Body Condition and Lamb Survival
Join us for the first webinar with independent sheep consultant Nerys Wright, who will explore the fundamentals of improving lamb survival, with a particular focus on how ewe body condition at different stages of the production cycle can influence lamb performance and survival.
Nerys will explain:
- Why getting ewe body condition right matters for lamb survival
- The key times when ewe condition has the greatest impact on lamb survival and performance
- The potential impact of being over or under conditioned at key stages
- Practical considerations for monitoring and managing ewe condition ahead of lambing
Join us to better understand the link between ewe condition and lamb survival and discover practical steps you can take to give more lambs the best possible start.
