Young Farmers Roadshow Thainstone – Cattle Overwintering Competition Workshop
Join us at Aberdeen and Northern Marts, Thainstone Centre on Wednesday 23 September from 7pm for a workshop on the SAYFC Young Farmers Cattle Overwintering Competition.
Scott Chapman, ANM, will provide an overview of the competition, covering how to take part, ‘help to buy’ finance scheme, competition rules and scoring. As well as an overview of the current beef market.
Come along and hear from Young Farmers who have previously participated and achieved considerable success over the years at the Thainstone overwintering competition as they share their experiences and what they look for when buying a calf.
We will also be joined by well-known Northeast show man Michael Robertson, Fodderletter Farms, to gain valuable insight into what it takes to turnout a calf for competition.
Will also cover how to manage your calf once its home, focusing on feeding strategies and nutrition considering animal age and weight.
There will be a live demonstration of some basic tips and tricks for turning out a calf for the competition, including clipping and show day preparation.
This evening is aimed at Young Farmers who have previously taken part in the competition who want to enhance their skills, or anyone looking to compete for the first time and gain some insight prior to entry, families of Young Farmers are more than welcome to come along too! We encourage attendees to ask questions to make the most of the evening.
Although this event is targeted at the Overwintering Competition, a lot of the content is relevant to anyone looking to learn more about buying and turning out show cattle, please come along!
There will be a prize draw for attendees to win a showing goodie bag at the end of the night.
