AECS to Open for Applications in Early 2026

20 October 2025

It has been confirmed that there will be a 2026 round of the Agri-Environment Climate Scheme (AECS) and the scheme will open for applications in early 2026. Detail on the offer of the round will be confirmed later this year and will be communicated via the Rural Payments and Services website.

The recent announcement also indicates that the AECS scheme will continue to be funded until 2030.

The aim of the AECS scheme is to promote land management practices which protect and enhance Scotland’s natural heritage, improve water quality, manage flood risk and mitigate and adapt to climate change.

You can read more about the scheme and get a flavour of the options that usually sit under the scheme on the Rural Payments and Services dedicated webpage – Agri-Environment Climate Scheme
