Farm Biodiversity Scotland App
20 October 2025NatureScot is developing and testing a simple and easy to use farm biodiversity audit and planning process, which could be completed by any farmer or crofter using a digital tool. This is based around a four-step process to Map, Measure, Manage and Monitor for biodiversity.
The Farm Biodiversity Scotland mobile app and web platform (otherwise known as FarmBioScot) is owned by NatureScot and free for farmers and crofters to use.
This summer, a group of farmers and crofters from across Scotland have been testing habitat condition assessments and species recording. 150 farms and crofts have tested over 1300 habitat assessments and tried out new functionality for recording farmland species. The app includes a tool to help identify plants and insects.
If you would like to test FarmBioScot and use it to create your biodiversity audit map for the Whole Farm Plan or help shape the principles of the biodiversity audit and planning process we are developing, you can sign up at the link below.
