Ayrshire WIA – Farming in Bute

This is a Women in Agriculture event. Everyone is welcome.

Our first Ayrshire Women in Agriculture meeting this year will be a day trip to the Isle of Bute. This event aims to showcase some excellent farms on the island and discuss how they run their systems.

Meeting at Wemyss Bay at 8:45am, we will sail across and first visit Kerrytonlia. Chris & Katie Homer are new tenants to the Isle of Bute. Three years ago they moved up from Wiltshire and now run 275 dairy cows on a spring calving, New Zealand type system.

They are a young couple with great ambition to continue growing their dairy enterprise on the Isle of Bute.

Our second visit will be to Scalpsie. This is run by Ian and Lisa Dickson. They are a beef and sheep enterprise running 160 suckler cows, followers and over 1000 sheep. Lisa also runs a sheepdog business.

We will then return to Rothesay to get the 4pm boat home.

Lunch & travel provided so booking is essential.
