Islay Women In Agriculture – Let’s Talk Health

This event will provide you with an insight into how best to maximise both soil and animal health on your farm or croft.

We will visit Cornabus, a farm rich in biodiversity and home to a pedigree shorthorn herd, to hear from vet Samara about how grazing practices are used to maximise soil and grassland health, whilst minimising inputs, and have a look at how the farm uses collars to manage cattle. We will gain practical experience in how to take and soil sample and dig soil pits to look at soil structure. We will then discuss animal health with a vet update on blue tongue, and animal health planning and biosecurity, giving you practical advice about how best to manage animal health on your farm or croft.

Lunch is provided at local Balaclava Byre, so booking is essential.
