Jennifer Hall

Jennifer Hall studied zoology at Uni, but her heart made her return home to work on the family farm with her father.  They have since introduced a pig enterprise where Jennifer and her father can learn the trade together.  In this video she explains how they have adapted the sheds, to suit the system as well as advice for others.  Andy McGowan, Chief Executive of Scottish Pig Producers discusses how joint ventures offer opportunities for new entrants.

Middlehouse Farm

Scott Bourman has recently become the majority partner of a farming business with his uncle.  He has recently introduced a finishing pig enterprise, making Scott a new entrant to farming and to the pig industry.  In this video Scott explains how he got in to the industry and the support he has received.  Iain Lyle, Harbro Monogastric Tech support manager discusses the capital involved in starting such an enterprise.

Glenfinglas

Janet Pringle contract farms at Glenfinglas Estate, which is owned by the Woodland Trust Scotland. This video highlights the key tips and benefits of joint venture farming from both the contractor and land owner and illustrates how farming and conservation work hand in hand for this agreement.

Lanark
Michael Scott has undertaken a contract farming agreement with William Boyd. This video demonstrates how this has benefitted both parties as well as highlighting the importance of good communication, trust and honesty between both the farmer and the contractor.

Woodfold

The National Forest Estate has created numerous opportunities for new entrants to enter in to the agricultural industry through the Starter Farm Initiative and latterly Starter Units. Stewart Hendry, Agricultural Adviser, Forest Enterprise Scotland along with one of the starter farm tenants, John Matheson explain in this video why these opportunities have been created and how they have been a benefit. Since entering the tenancy John has been successful in securing more land and has been awarded a contract with Forest Enterprise Scotland for planting riparian areas on the farm, adding to his income stream.

Glen Dye

Dave Cowie used his initiative to approach Glen Dye Estate when the previous contract shepherd retired. He is now in a 3 year contract farming agreement managing 2,000 ewes on a 20,000 acre hill and 250 acres of ion bye land. In this video Dave explains how the contract farming agreement works for him and how it is allowed him to enter the industry.
