Cattle Resilience – Are you ready for Winter? – Event Summary

18 October 2017

Farmers from across the North East attended Woodside Farm, Kinloss to discuss issues facing farmers this coming Winter.  Presentations and practical demonstrations were part of the meeting.  Specialists from across SAC provided farmers with advice on building ventilation, bull management, winter feeding and silage quality, alternative bedding materials and Johne’s disease.  All with the aim of improving their overall beef enterprise and herd management.

The Farming & Water Scotland van was also present and gave farmers the chance to look at alternative watering systems which are available.

It was clear from the meeting that the recent wet weather, prolonged harvest and low availability of straw has raised some concerns for farmers as we approach winter however the meeting gave the opportunity to discuss such issues and was well received by those in attendance.
