Funding for Water Resilience and Climate Adaptation on Farms
26 August 2025As experienced by many Scottish farmers and crofters this year, climate change is driving warmer and drier summers. Ensuring reliable water access will require farmers and crofters to adopt forward-looking strategies to sustain their businesses in the years ahead.
The Farm Advisory Service (FAS) provides tailored one-to-one support to help land managers plan and implement strategies that protect water resources and sustain productivity. Proven approaches, such as improving on-farm water storage, enhancing soil health to retain moisture, adopting efficient irrigation systems, and managing and enhancing natural watercourses, can help support both livestock and arable operations adapt to a changing climate.
You can receive up to £5,200 in funding through FAS to develop an Integrated Land Management Plan (ILMP), which offers a comprehensive analysis of your business and its financials, and access specialist advice on two topics, such as water management, soil and nutrient management and climate change adaptation and mitigation.
To find out more and apply for funding, visit our ILMP and Specialist Advice pages. For support choosing the best grant options and help finding an advisor, contact FAS at advice@fas.scot or 0300 323 0161.
