Health is Your Wealth: Physical and Mental Resilience

Farming and crofting is not just a job – it’s a way of life. Agriculture is a wonderful industry to work in but can be very physically and emotionally demanding on you and your family and the many challenges that farmers and crofters face can have a negative impact on your mental health and wellbeing. It is important that we all take more responsibility for managing our own mental and physical health and wellbeing.

The Health is your Wealth project brought together a range of experts to cover mental health, physical health, nutrition and the support available to farmers and crofters if you are struggling with mental health or know of others who need support.

Check out all our resources below.

Fit to Farm Booklet

The Fit to Farm Booklet is a summary of all the individual outputs from the project and explains what it means to be ‘fit to farm’ and how to take care of your mental and physical wellbeing.

Adapt Movement, Improve Performance – Webinar Recording

Athletes are paid to use the tools of their trade, to perform at their best using their body and mind, on a daily basis.

Within the rural industries, farmers, crofters, shearers, fencers, and others, are required to perform at their best both mentally and physically day in day out for income and ensuring longevity of their careers – exactly the same as professional athletes.

In the second of these webinars focusing on physical health for performance and mental wellbeing, Laura Hancock: a professional movement coach and educator specialising in rural industries hosts a practical session taking us through breathing exercises, movement snacks, posture control and exercises you can introduce into your working day.

All you need is a rolled-up towel, floor space, and a chair for this practical session.
