Crown rust

Crown rust is one of the main diseases to affect oats, and can affect some grasses too.  Notable from the orange coloured pustules on both sides fo the leaves.  Some varieties show better resistance to the disease than others.

The disease favours warm, humid conditions and is not normally a problem until just before harvest, however it can cause substantial yield losses.

Treatment is by application of an appropriate fungicide.
