Conducting a Biodiversity Audit Workshop – Aberdeenshire
This event includes an outdoor session so please wear appropriate footwear/waterproofs.
Prepare for the 2025 rollout of the Whole Farm Plan which will be a core requirement for farms to receive support payments going forward. Initially land managers will have to undertake two out of five potential audits. One potential option is a Biodiversity Audit which will consist of creating a habitat map of your farm. This task might feel daunting, however, during our workshop we will explain what is required, and equip you with the knowledge so you can easily conduct the audit on your farm.
The workshop will:
- Provide guidance on how to recognise and map habitats.
- Introduce resources that can assist you undertake this audit including online databases, maps, and tools to help you recognise different species.
- Introduce NatureScot’s Farm Biodiversity Scotland App. This App is specifically designed to help farmers and crofters conduct a biodiversity audit. The App’s user-friendly interface allows land managers to create high quality habitat maps simply with a mobile phone, tablet or desktop computer.
- Provide guidance on how you can assess the quality of a habitat. Habitats vary in their quality, we will introduce simple means to assess habitat quality through the use of scorecards
