Crofting Discussion Group Gairloch – Fluke
🐑 Tackling Fluke in Sheep and Cattle
Join the Crofting Club for a focused, practical session on managing this costly parasite.
🦠 Sheep and cattle are affected by a range of internal and external parasites—including liver fluke, roundworms, mites, lice, flies, and ticks—all of which can reduce productivity and drive-up costs.
🌧️ With wetter weather on the way, and climate change and resistance to treatments making parasite control more challenging, now is the time to get ahead of the problem.
This session will focus on liver fluke, giving you the tools and knowledge to protect your stock.
What we’ll cover:
- 🧬 Understanding the fluke life cycle – know how it spreads and why
- ⏰ Timing treatments – why getting it right matters
- 💊 Effective products – what to use and when
- 🌿 Practical control and land management – reducing risk without relying solely on medicines
- 🧪 Testing – when and how to check for fluke
- 💷 PSF scheme – funding support to help cover testing costs
Whether you’re new to crofting or experienced, this is a chance to brush up on best practice and ask questions in a friendly, practical setting.
All crofters welcome – whether you run sheep, cattle, or both.
Booking is essential for catering purposes.
