Forage Focus Summer Event – Castle Douglas

Please use the above map for an exact meeting location. Alternatively, use the following What3Words location: Grange Farm

Join us at Grange Farm, Castle Douglas on Thursday 5th June at 10am for a farm walk to discuss how James Biggar and his team are evolving their use of forages and outwintering for the suckler herd.

James has been trialling different management systems and forage choices over the last year and is using this experience to adjust his system to maximise profit, become more resilient to climate change and lower emissions.

Key areas for discussion will be:

  • Optimising yield and utilisation of forage crops through agronomy and nutrient management planning
  • The benefits of diversity in forage crop mixes for soil health, yield, forage quality and biodiversity
  • The use of overseeding after bale grazing to increase forage stocks and reduce costs

Lunch will be provided so booking is essential.

Please bring clean footwear suitable for a farm walk.
