In a season of many challenges join us this year as we review the leading wheat varieties currently undergoing assessment at our Cauldshiel Trial site with Dr Steve Hoad.
SRUC crop specialist, Fiona Burnett, will be discussing how our fungicide programmes are adapting to optimise on new chemistry now available and SRUC Lorna Cole and Henry Criessen will be taking a closer look at Integrated Pest Management developments and the ecology of beneficial insects as pollinators.
To conclude the event, rural business consultant, Julian Bell, will be looking ahead to the marketing prospects for this year’s wheat and barley crops.
The Crops and Soils Focus Group provides an opportunity to get together with growers in your local area to discuss the latest developments within crops and soils helping to improve the profitability and resilience of your business. The meeting looks at the use of digestates and distillery waste, both in terms of their values as a fertiliser and crucially how best to utilise them. The increasing availability and interest in these products locally means that an understanding of their potential benefits and pitfalls is key to optimising the opportunities they offer.
