Funding for Water Management – Plan Ahead and Avoid Summer Stress

15 December 2025

Water scarcity can quickly turn into a major challenge during the summer months, affecting crops, livestock, and overall farm productivity. The good news? You can take steps now to reduce the risk and stress later.

Planning ahead is key. Simple actions like reviewing your water storage capacity, checking irrigation systems, and assessing alternative water sources can make a big difference when dry spells hit. Thinking about water efficiency now helps protect your business and ensures you’re ready for unpredictable weather.

The Farm Advisory Service (FAS), funded by the Scottish Government, offers specialist advice on water management to help you prepare. Through FAS, you can access up to £3,200 for two tailored advice plans, including water management. A professional consultant will work with you to review your current setup, identify risks, and develop practical solutions—whether that’s improving infrastructure, planning for drought resilience, or exploring options for water recycling.

Don’t wait until summer to act. Make time this winter to think ahead and secure your water supply. Visit FAS Specialist Advice to learn more and apply for support. For more information on mentoring or to apply for funding, visit our Specialist Advice grant page or contact FAS at advice@fas.scot or 0300 323 0161.
