North East Organic Discussion Group – 4th Meeting

7 November 2017

On Tuesday 7th November the NE Organic Discussion Group enjoyed a workshop on social media, which is increasingly important in all walks of life, and although constantly changing, can be a very valuable tool for communicating, sharing and doing business. Rene Looper of Tuminds Ltd. demonstrated the main platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Whatsapp, Google +, Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter, Tumblr and Pintrest), how easily they can be used, including for marketing, without being too time consuming. It was a very interactive and practical session.

A copy of his presentation can be found here

In the afternoon we continued on the new technology theme and visited the new organic robotic dairy at Wester Manabeen where we saw the robots in action and heard how the whole system worked.

A full range of pictures showing the robots and the dairy can be found here.

The day demonstrated how technology can be used to the benefit of organic farming. These are only two examples and there are many more.

The NE Organic Discussion Group meets 4 times a year and provides a good networking and knowledge transfer opportunity. This was the fourth and last meeting for 2017. Over the 4 meeting we have covered a wide range of topics including:- pH, soil, paddock grazing, Organic Action Plan, market outlook, potatoes, carrots, red meat market, two farm walks, cattle, sheep, cereals, neeps, robotic dairy and social media. We are currently looking forward to next year and would welcome suggested visits or topics. Come along and meet other organic producers
