Cows in their natural habitat – wintering on the hill
Giles Henry at Oakwood Mill, Scottish Borders
Giles has just moved the cows up to the hill (1100f) . The grass has been rested since April and will see them through until the end of March when they will come back down for calving. Energy blocks provided will help them utilise the roughage. He has only supplemented the grass with conserved forage twice in 25 years.
