Farmland Wading Birds Information Note: Snipe (Gallinago gallinago)

Smaller than other farmland waders, the snipe has streaky brown plumage, a very long straight bill and a secretive nature. Although widespread, snipe are scarce in the more intensive arable areas of Scotland.
