New Entrants case study Archie Patterson, Plan Farm, Bute

Archie Paterson is a new entrant to farming. He’s the son of a shepherd, who always dreamed of farming in his own right. In order to make his dream a reality, Archie decided to become a sheep shearer, spending over 10 years travelling round the world, shearing sheep. More recently Archie developed a low input sheep system on seasonal lets, which allowed him to build up stock numbers. In 2020 Archie submitted a successful application to take on a 20 year tenancy of Plan farm on the Isle of Bute. This video describes Archie’s journey from full time shearer to full time farmer.
