Webinar: Women In Agriculture – Sheep and Cattle Nutrition Starter Session

This topic, of nutrition for ruminants, was requested by the members of the Inverness-shire and Ross-shire Women in Agriculture group. This first session covered the basics of ruminant nutrition, with follow up sessions coming later in the year.

Kirsten Williams (a beef and sheep consultant with SAC) and Mary Young (who is a nutritionist with SAC) explained

  • the basics of nutrition
  • the development and workings of the rumen
  • Requirements for Crude Protein and Energy
  • the importance of “DUP”
  • evaluating different feeds and value for money
