Free Trade Agreement (FTA)

Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is an agreement between countries that removes tariffs and other restrictions on ‘substantially all’ goods traded between them.  These are, by necessity, complex agreements taking into account many different streams of trade between countries and take years to negotiate.  EU member states cannot negotiate their own FTAs but instead negotiate as a single community.
