Precautionary Principle

Precautionary Principle is one of the defining elements of the EU ethos. When scientific investigation identifies a risk to health or the environment the EU will act to protect the public until or unless it can be proved that there is no risk. For this reason the EU have banned hormone-treated beef, despite it being common practice in other countries such as in the USA.
