Organic Discussion Group – Balmakewan Farm

Balmakewan is a 130ha organic farm with a variety of arable crop and livestock enterprises. Join us on the 27^th of June at 12.30pm for lunch in the farm café and shop, followed by a farm walk focusing on the farm’s oats, combinable peas, potato trial and deer herd.

Soil microbiology is a main driver for the business, with compost teas produced on farm to boost plant and soil health. Composting along with mineralisation and application are all done on farm, with equipment to be seen on the day! We will have a session indoors to look at microbial activity of compost, agricultural and woodland soils under the microscope. Come along with a soil sample of your own to look at!
