Sustainable Beef Systems – Easter Howgate Farm
Please use the above map for an exact meeting location.
Sustainability in a beef system means it has to be profitable for the one running the system. Join us at SRUC Easter Howgate in Penicuik to find out about how scientific principles are being applied to a commercial herd to create ‘the cow of the future’.
The conversation around carbon efficiency in beef systems is relatively new but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t begin acting now. Sustainability in a beef system also means it has to be profitable. Join us at SRUC Easter Howgate in Penicuik to find out about how scientific principles are being applied to a commercial herd to create ‘the cow of the future’. This ‘walk and talk’ around the farm is intended to give you an insight into how important sustainability changes are being made to a suckler enterprise to increase profits.
Speakers will cover everything from emissions from the beef enterprise, fertility, survival, growth and genetics for developing sustainable beef herds. The event will also include a tour of the newly launched UltraGreenCow facility. Those involved include: SRUC’s George Baikie, Carol Ann Duthie, Gemma Miller, John Farquar, Bruce Wyper and Arwell Owen from Genus.
Please note this will be a mixed indoor and outdoor event, warm/waterproof clothing is advisable. Lunch will be provided. Booking is essential as numbers will be capped.
