Managing Water on the Steading: Two examples from Aberdeenshire (Video)

Agricultural Consultant George Chalmers visits two Aberdeenshire farms to give an insight into how the farmers have received SRDP funding to improve steading runoff and benefit their farm business. We begin with a visit Mains of Blackton farm near Turriff and hear from farmer Gavin Elrick who had has installed a simple 3 basin swale Rural Sustainable Drainage System to help deal with steading water runoff.

Our second farm visit is to Mid Clochforbie near Banff where farmer Jamie Menzies explains how concreting his farmyard and diverting the runoff to a holding pond that filters out through a gravel trap swale system has made a big difference to his steading.
