Regenerative Agriculture – Minimising Soil Disturbance

Alex Milne is an arable farmer and contractor from Fyvie, Aberdeenshire who has been using min till cultivations since 2008, and he explains how he began his journey into min till. He believes minimising soil disturbance is beneficial for his crops, and more importantly his soil health, with the most visual indicators being the increasing numbers of worms in his fields. His min till approach has also benefited his pocket, as it has reduced his input costs significantly, helping to reduce his carbon footprint. His contracting work using his strip till drill, also gives him experience & knowledge of working with different soil types from sandy soils in Morayshire to heavy clays in parts of Aberdeenshire, highlighting how adaptable this system of cultivation is.
